PhD in Neuroscience
The Program in Neuroscience (PIN) is an interdepartmental PhD degree program with collaborating faculty from departments across the University of Mississippi Medical Center under the auspices of the UMMC Neuro Institute. The goal of the program is to educate and train individuals to become independent research investigators, teachers, and mentors with a broad understanding of the neurosciences.
Our curriculum includes both didactic and non-didactic coursework with emphasis placed on experimental design, scientific writing, and communication skills. Students also participate in a variety of career-building opportunities. Exposure to research begins in the student’s first semester and students choose their dissertation laboratory after a survey of several active laboratories. Research focus areas in the graduate program include brain trauma and spinal cord injury, neurodevelopment, neuroendocrinology, sensory systems, psychiatric disease, and substance abuse.
On behalf of the Executive Committee, I'd like to invite you to learn more about the neuroscience community here at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. We are always willing to discuss opportunities here and the research that it ongoing. Feel free to contact us if you have any questions. We are more than happy to provide a personal introduction to the PhD program and the UMMC neuroscience research community.
